A while ago I finally found the time to rent Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'the phantom of the opera' from my local video store. I have always been a fan of classic horror stories and I can also appreciate a good musical when I see one so I was very curious to see what all the fuss was about.
When the movie was over I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. How the hell did this happen? How did a handsome guy who can't sing get cast as the phantom? And what the hell was up with the deformity? That was no deformity, it was a slight skinrash!
I could go on and on about how much I hated it, how it completely missed the whole point of the story and how it ended up mocking itself but I think I'll let my little deviation here speak for me.
After all, we all know the real Erik (as Gaston Leroux described him) could kick Gerik's ass any day of the week.

Lol- this is great XD, At some points I like Gerry, because well he preforms some parts like I imagine they should be, but any Gerry bashing I am totally all the way, go Erik- Go!
I enjoyed the movie but I couldn't agree more. But I think Gerard didn't do a bad job. (considering The Phantom of the Paridise *shivers with disgust*)

I agree with you in some ways. I mean, I, being the FX makeup fanatic that I am, was upset by the deformity in the movie. Heck, they could have done waaaayyy better. I do understand what they were going for with the singing voice, though. But, yes, I would have made some changes had I directed the movie (modernism isn‘t a sign of genius….) But, just one thing, POTO isn’t a horror story. It’s a gothic story written in research fiction style. Sorry, I’m a Gothic novel geek…

It's both in it's own way, a horror and a little gothic, with some romance. I love the story but the movie got me wanting to do check out some stuff...so I don't regret watching it but Gerry should stick to being a vampire...(in one of his movies he was Dracula it was pretty good). But it's sort of true theatre people can adapt to movie, while movie stars can't really adapt to stage.
I could have done better...one of these days, if someone doesn't, I'll do a movie Leroux verson all the way. The way it should be.
Still love the pictures style great job.

And I don't know the exact term for the novel, but a disfigured guy with a mask that goes around killing people.....that sounds horror enough to me.
I saw Dracula 2000 too. It was pretty good but the ending screwed the whole thing up. I mean, instead of killing Dracula in the movie, the creators wiped the whole character of Dracula out of existence! And that is just wrong, man.
Well thats freedom of opinion, I personally love all Erik variations and I think Gerry's voice is absolutely amazing. But what ever, if your going to hate unfairly then go ahead.
